Abstract
488,091. Vehicle spring-suspensions. MONROE AUTO EQUIPMENT CO. Oct. 29, 1936, No. 29481. Convention date, April 6. [Class 108 (ii)] In a vehicle-suspension system of the kind in which a stabilizing device in the form of a transverse torsion rod 19, Fig. 1, is combined with shock-absorbing means, the torsion rod is mounted upon either the spring or unsprung assembly and has its ends cranked and connected to the other of such assemblies, while a single shock-absorber is employed having one end connected to the torsion rod and the other end to one of the assemblies. In the arrangement shown the side arms 21 of the stabilizer are connected by means of links 22 to clamping plates 18 for the main suspension springs 16, the joints at the ends of the links 22 preferably being of an elastic nature, and the torsion rod 19 being also mounted in rubber blocks 28 in clamps 29 secured to the frame 10. The single shock-absorber 31, which may, as shown, be of the kind described in Specifications 481,869 or 481,935, is secured at its lower end by an arm 34 to the axle 14 and at its upper end to an arm 36 fixed to the centre of the rod 19, the arm 36 extending in the opposite direction to the arms 21. In a modification, the arm 36 is mounted to extend in the same direction as the arms 21, while in a further construction, Fig. 7 (not shown), the shock-absorber is connected between the torsion bar and a sprung part of the vehicle. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also modifications in which two shock-absorbers are combined with the torsion bar. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
