Abstract
669,545. Spring suspensions; springs; preventing lateral canting. GREGOIRE, J. A. Dec. 31, 1947 [Aug. 12, 1946], No. 35110/47. Classes 108(ii) and 108(iii). In an independent wheel suspension comprising arms disposed tranversely of a vehicle. one being connected to a wheel at one side of the vehicle and the other being connected to a corresponding wheel at the other side, each arm is extended to form a lever so shaped and arranged that the free ends of the two levers are spaced apart and located one above the other, the free ends of the levers being connected by a coil spring the axis of which is substantially vertical. In the arrangement shown, in which a pair of wheels 5, 5<SP>1</SP> which are both driving and steering and are independently sprung by coil springs 6, 6<SP>1</SP> operating in tension between a vehicle frame 1 and the upper arms 2, 2' respectively of parallel link suspension, the arms 2, 2' are formed with extensions 8, 8' which are interconnected by a coil spring 10, the ends of which are bent parallel to each other and are rigidly secured in trunnions 12 and 12<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, journalled respectively at the ends of the extension 8, 8'. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, (not shown), the lower arms 3, 3<SP>1</SP> may be replaced by a leaf spring rigidly secured at its centre to the vehicle frame. Specification 666,852 is referred to.
