Abstract

672,402. Spring suspensions; torsion springs. DAIMLER - BENZ AKT. - GES. March 31, 1950 [March 31, 1949], No. 8123/50. Class 108(ii) and 108(iii) In a stabilizer for motor vehicles constructed as a torsion rod spring connected between two opposite wheel suspensions, the stabilizer is disposed inside a hollow tranverse bearer of the frame or body and consists of two lengths or halves which are inserted in the tranverse bearer from the ends thereof and are thereafter coupled together. In the arrangement shown in which a wheel carrier c at each side of a vehicle frame is supported by upper and lower links e and d respectively and in which a coil spring is disposed between the frame and the link d, two torsion rod halves g' and g<SP>2</SP>, the ends of each of which are bent at right angles are mounted within a tranverse frame bearer b and each is pivotally connected at its outer end. through a rod 1 to the corresponding link d. The inner ends of the rods which are coupled together by a plate t, are disposed between upper and lower rubber cushions sand r respectively, one or the other of which limits free turning movement of the rod halves. The two rod halves are carried in outer bearings h<SP>1</SP>, h<SP>2</SP>, and inner bearings h<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP>, the latter being carried by a coverplate u of an aperture in the bearer b through which plate t is fitted. Downward movement of the bent outer ends of the rod is limited by rubber cushions n<SP>1</SP>, n<SP>2</SP>, disposed en the frame.
