[Class 43.] In a one-piece buckle or bucklelike slide 1 for use with a strip of webbing 4a or other pliable material, as in hose-suspenders and the like, a lip 6 is so formed that when the running length 4 of the strip 4a takes a position on opposite sides of the buckle 1 as in use, the lip 6 by contact with one side of the running length 4 of the strip guides the strip into engagement with gripping teeth 3 on the upper edge 2 of the buckle 1 opposing the other side of the strip, so that the latter when in the in-use position is engaged by the teeth 3 both when under tension and when the tension is relaxed. The slide consists of a main platelike body 1 with a substantially flat front. The lip 6 forms the lower part of a slot 5, and may be curved, or plane and inclined, or bent with two inclined portions. The space between the lip 6 and the teeth 3 is regulated according to the thickness of web to be used. A gap 8 may be provided in a part of the lip 6 so as to facilitate threading the web through the slot 5. The gap 8 may be formed by cutting away, or by depression, or by making the lip 6 in separate parts. The ends 9 of the bnckle may be bent back to stiffen it. To anchor the fixed end of the webbing, the lower edge 11 of the plate may be bent up so as to grip the web and may have teeth to increase the grip ; or other methods, such as swedging, or those described in Specifications 192,638 and 228,768, [both in Class 44, Fastenings, Lock &c.], may be used.
