[Class 60.] Apparatus for stropping or honing single-edged or double-edged razor blades consists of a frame A having a base a, side walls a<1> with flanges a<2>, and an end wall a<3>. A carriage B is provided with sides b<1> carrying fibre blocks B<1>, slidable along the walls a<2>, and the sides b<1> are bent inwards to provide bearings b<2> for a blade-holder, which seats in recesses b<3> and is held in position by a pivoted handle lever b<4>. The blade-holder consists of two plates c, c<1> slidably and hingedly connected and provided with journals c<5> which are extended to carry levers c<7> carrying spring-pressed studs c<8> ; the plate c also carries a lever c<4>, at right-angles to the lever c<7>, within the carriage. A block M is supported by a wire frame m<3> and carries a strop m and a hone m<1>, and in the frame are rails E, with inclined or discontinued ends e, plates F, G, projections H, and plates J. In operation, the carriage is moved to and fro along the frame and the blade is tilted and pressed against the strop by the engagement of the studs c<8> with the rails E ; pins c<9>, by engagement with the rails limit the movement of the blade and, in the case of single-edged blades, keep the edge clear of the strop on the backwards stroke. The blade is reversed, at the end of the stroke from right to left, by the action of the plates and projections F, G, H, J on the levers c<4>, c<7> and the plates G lift the blade from the strop at the end of the outer stroke. The levers c<7> and studs c<8> may be replaced by rubber discs on the ends of the blade-holder adapted to contact with the flanges a<2>. Levers c<4>, c<7> may be provided at both ends of the blade-holder.
