Abstract

402,553. Safety razors. SCOTT, A., 133, Long Line, Dore, near Sheffield. Aug. 17, 1932, No. 23024. [Class 30.] A safety razor comprises a hollow-ground blade D having pivots B carrying flanged rollers E and supported in the sides of a U-shaped frame A, a wire spring F attached centrally to the back of the blade with its free ends passing through holes in the frame, and spring clips J which clip over the sides of the blade to hold it down in the shaving position against the pressure of the wire spring F. The spring clips J are carried on a U-shaped piece of wire attached centrally to the frame A and have downward extensions passing outside the frame and terminating in knobs L<1>, which are nipped together to allow the blade to assume a released position shown in Fig. 1. The guard comprises a grooved roller or a number of grooved rollers H on a spindle. The blade pivots B may be integral with, or brazed or soldered to, the blade. With the blade in the released position it may be stropped by running the flanged rollers E along the parallel upturned sides of a metal box containing a strop or stone. The wire spring F supplies the necessary sharpening pressure and the means for reversing the blade at the end of each stroke by dipping it into recesses at the ends of the strop. Extending side pieces at each end of the strop prevent damage to the cutting edge during reversal.
