Abstract
310,196. Hanlon, R., and O'Brien & Partners, Ltd., S. May 2, 1928. Pocket knives.-A holder to enable a safety razor blade 11 to be used as a penknife comprises two plates 1, 2 joined along the longitudinal edge by a yoke 3 integral with the plates or by a hinge and having fastening means for the free edges. The plates 1, 2 are curved or have ridges, projections, or indentations, or are otherwise shaped so that when the free edges are clamped together the blade is firmly gripped. As shown for a thick backed blade 11, the plates 1, 2, are channelled at 4, Fig. 3, to accommodate the blade back and on the free edges are provided with rolled portions 7, 8 forming a snap fastening. To allow the blade to be moved into the cutting position, the plates are cut away at 10. The plate 2 is bent over at 9 to form an abutment for the blade in the closed position. For a doubleedged blade, the plates are shaped as in Fig. 5, and a U-shaped guard 12, Fig. 4, slidable over the plates 1, 2 covers or exposes the cutting edge protruding through the gap 10. The member 12 and the plates 1, 2 may have co-acting flanges ridges, or grooves.
