To all whom z't may concern.' v Be it known that I, FREDERICK BUNNELL KING, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Safet Razors, of which the following is a speci cation. TheA object of' my invention is to provide certain improvements in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts of a safety razor whereby the blade is accurately positioned with 4respect to the guard and the shield and in which the shield is made reversible so that the cutting edge of the blade maybe exposed when the shield occupies one position and may be covered and thereby thoroughly protected when the shield occupies another position.l

A further object is to provide a very simple-and inexpensive razor having the advan tages above set forth.

A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawin sin which, I

vThe razor blade is denoted by 1 and it is herein shown as being provided with acutting edge V2. It is also provided with holes 3 arranged to coact with lugs 4 formed on the face of the guard 5 for'removably holding the blade in its proper position on the said guard.

The reversible shield for the blade is denoted by 11 and it is a-ranged to frictionally engage `the guard 5. This frictional engagement is provided for byy turning the ends of the guard inwardly as shown at 12 and 13 and turning the ends of the shield 11 back upon the body portion of the shield as shown at 14 and 15 to provide grooves for the reception of the inwardly turned ends l2, 13of the guard. 12, 13, are provided with shou ders 18, 19, so that when the shield is slid onto the guard over the razor blade in one position, it will` be stopped with the cutting edge of the razor blade covered and protected, and when slid on to the guard in the reverse position, `the cuttin edge of the razor blade is exposed a su cient distance for use in shaving.

It will thus be seen that the shield by reason of its reversibility serves not only to hold the blade in position on the guard when ready for use but also serves as a protector for the cutting edge of the blade when the parts are out of their operative position.

simple interlocking device is provided between the razor blade and the guard for ac-y curately positioning the blade with respect to the guard and the shield.

A razor constructed substantially as herein i described comprises a minimum number of parts and the parts may be readily detached for purposes of cleaning and for the insertion and removal of the blades.

What I claimis:

l. A safety razor comprising a handle, a guard, a blade, a reversible shield for holding the blade in position on the guard, and coacting means, whereby the shield will eX- pose the cutting edge of the blade when in one position and will cover and protect the cutting edge of the blade' when in its other position.

2. A safety razor comprising a handle, a guard, a blade, a reversible shield frietion ally engaged with the guard for holding the 'blade in position thereon, and coacting means, whereby the shield will expose the cutting edge of the blade when in one position and will cover and protect the cutting edge when in its other position.

3. A safety razor comprising a handle, a guard, a blade interlocked with the guard, a reversible shield :for holding the blade in position on the guard, and eoacting means, whereby the shield will expose the cutting edge of the blade when in one position andv will cover and protect the cutting edge when in its other position.

4. A safety razor comprising a handle, a guard, a blade interlocked with the guard, a reversible shield rictionally engaged with the guard for holding the blade in position thereon, and eoacting means, whereby the shield will expose the cutting edge of the blade when in one position and will cover and protect the cutting edge when in itsv other position.

5. A safety razor comprising a handle, a guard, a blade and a reversible shield for holding the blade in position on the guard, said guard having inwardly turned ends and said shield having turned-back ends forming grooves for the reception of the inwardly turned ends of the guard, the shield being arranged to expose the cutting edge of the blade when in one position and to cover and protect the cutting edge when in its other position.

6. A safety razor comprising a handle, a guard, a blade and a reversible shield for holding the blade in position on the guard, said guard having inwardly turned ends provided with shoulders and said shields having turned back ends forming grooves for the reception of the inwardly turned ends of the guard and having recesses whereby when the shield is slid onto the guard in one position the cutting edge of the blade will be covered and protected and when slid onto the guard in the other posit-ion the cutting edge. of the blade will be exposed for use. f In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this fifth day of December, 1916.
