Abstract

Razors, of the kind in which the teeth d of the guard vary in length so that the line through the points of the teeth is inclined with respect to the cutting edge of the blade f whereby a shearing cut is obtained, have the upper surfaces of the teeth cut away to provide a shoulder g immediately in front of and parallel with the cutting edge f. As an alternative, the intermediate portions of the length of the teeth may be omitted, leaving only the point portions, which are in this case connected by a bar, so that a slot is provided between such toothed bar and the cutting edge of the razor. A shoulder h may also be provided behind the cutting edge. The upper surface of the guard may be grooved to leave longitudinal ribs k, l, and the cover-plate c may have a shorter radius of curvature than has the upper surface of the guard so that the blade is clamped only near the edges. The teeth shown in Fig. 2 are oblique with respect to the line joining their points, but they may be at rightangles thereto. In alternative arrangements of teeth the longer teeth at one side may be opposite the longer teeth at the other, or one side may have teeth of gradually decreasing length and the other teeth of uniform length.
