751,357. Safety razors. FIRMBLADE RAZOR CO. Oct. 31, 1953, No. 30119/53. Class 30. A safety razor comprises a guard member including spaced, parallel front and rear guards and a backing member parallely spaced between the guards and joined to both ends of at least one of them, a blade supporting member hinged at one edge to one edge of the guard member which it overlies to clamp the blade, and bladeejecting lugs extending outwardly from the hinged end of the guard member to intercept the blade as the blade supporting member is swung open. As shown, a razor head for a single-edged blade is set obliquely on a handle 19 and comprises a rear guard 2 integral with a backing member 3, the junction being depressed to form a cleaning trough, a front guard 1 joined to the backing member by spacers 5, 6 to provide a cleaning slot 7, and a blade-support 8 having blade positioning lugs 12, 13 and an offset end portion 9 which is hingedly mounted on a pin 10 the blade being flexed when the curved blade-clamping members are locked together by a resilient clip 11. Blade ejectors 18 intercept an edge of the blade when the blade support is swung open. In a modification the offset end portion 9 is of reduced width and is adjustable along the pin 10 to position the blade relatively to the toothed guard I the blade support 8 having an inwardly curved guide portion which adjusts the position of the blade support so that both ejector lugs are effective. The amount of opening of the blade support may be limited by abutment means such as a leaf spring welded to the inner surface of the blade support 8 and abutting the blade ejectors. When not in use the blade is reversed between the clamping members so that the cutting edge is towards the rear guard and is protected. In further modifications the backing member is integral with the front guard, or is secured to both guards by two spacers. In a form suitable for use with double-edged blades the razor head is at right angles to the handle and both guards are serrated. Suitable single-edged blades are provided by breaking double edged blade 32, Fig. 13, along score lines 37. The razor handle has an imbedded magnet 22 for retrieving blades.
