One of the side walls 13 is hingedly mounted on the end wall 141- by a pivot connection 16 and is detachably fastened to the end wall 15 by a latch pin 17. The wall 15 contains an aperture 18 in which the pin 17 is positioned when the casing is closed.. A stem 19 on the end wall 15 provides means for moving the free end of the wall 15 outwardly to engage and disengage the pin 17 with the wall 15 in the process of attaching and detaching the casing from the blade 10. The walls of the casing are preferably formed from thin light sheets of metal of sufiicient rigidity to insure that the casing will stay in position on the blade and function properly as a guard and yet have the necessary resiliency to permit yielding of the endwall 15 when pressure isrexerted on the stem 19 for that purpose. j j The blade 10 is provided with end eXtension members 20 and 21, preferably of uniform thickness, in order that the position j of the casing may be shifted relative to the cutting edge of the blade. The end extension members 2O and 21 .are respectively provided with a plurality of serrations 22annd 28. The kends of the casing have inwardly pointed projections 211 and 25 which are respectively engageable with any oneof the adjacent serrations 22 and 23 when the casing is mounted on the blade 10. The pointed projections24 andV 25 hold the casing against movement longitudinally of the blade 10 and also against movement in the direction of the width of the blade.y The cutting'edge of the blade 10 projects from between the converging edges of the side walls 13 in an amount sufficient to permit the blade to perform its function eliiciently with the side walls 13 serving as `guards eliminating the danger of gashing or cutting the face. lAs the blade 10 is gradually Worn away the casing may be moved towards the back of the blade by positioning the projections 24 and 25 vin the next adjacent serrations in the direction of the back of the blade. The spacing of theserrations is relatively small and thereby permits slight adjustments to compensate for the wear of the blade by maintaining a subspacingbetween the cutting edge ofk the blade and the walls 13;

Any tendency to lateral movement of the casing on the blade 10 is prevented by providing inwardly projecting'members 26 and 27 at the hinged end of the casing and similar projecting members 28 and 29 at the latchend yof the casing. The inwardly projecting members 2b and 27 havetheir inner faces parallel when the casing is closed and spaced apart a distance corresponding to the thickness of the end extension 20 of the blade 10. Similarly the inwardly projecting members 28 and 29 have their inner faces parallel and spaced apart sufficiently to engage the side walls of theend extension 21 of the blade 10.

By this arrangement the inner faces of the projecting members 26 and 27 and of the projecting members 28 and 29 are in close contact and in holding engagement with the blade 10 for all adjusted positions of the casing and prevent any lateral movement relative to the blade.

Theend wallA 15 of the casing preferably terminates at its forward end in alignment with the corresponding edges of the side walls 13 and stops short at its outerend a substantialdistance to permit the casing to be shifted a substantialV amount backwardly on the blade without interference with the handle portion of the blade.

Thus it will be seen that we have provided a guard casingl for the4 blade Yof a common razor which. forms an adjustable mounting'to compensate for the Wear of the .blade and which holds the casing in all adjusted positions againstr any movement relative to the blade. f

VHaving thus described our invention, it is yobvious that various immaterlal modifications maybe made in the same without departing from the spirit of our invention; y

hence, we do not wish to be understood Vas limiting ourselves to the vexact form, construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein Vshown and described or uses mentioned. Y

What we claim as' new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In combination, a razor blade, a casing forming a guard for the blade, adjusting means permitting the casing to be shifted to compensate for theblade becoming narrower by reason of wear, said means comprising end extension' members of uniform thickness and veach having a plurality of end serrations` said casing comprising side wallsfhingedly connected at .one end and having detachable fastening means at the other'end, a projection at each end of the casing so positioned as to selectively engage any one of the adjacent serrations, and means preventing lateral movement of thel casing relative to the blade, said last mentioned means comprising spaced apart projecting members on the inside faces of the casing so positioned as to engagethe side walls of said extensions positions-of the casing.

2. In combination, a razor blade, a. casing forming a guard for the blade, adjusting means permitting the casing to be shifted to compensate for thev blade becoming narrower by reason'of wear, said means comprising 'end extension members'of uniform thickness each having a plurality of serrations, said casing-comprising side walls hingedly con.- nected at one end and having detachable fastening means at the other end, a projection on the inner face of said casing at each end so positioned as to selectively engage'any oneof the adjacent serrations, and spaced for all adjusted apart projecting members on the inside yfacesof the casing so'positionedras to engage the side Walls of said extensions for all adJusted positions of the casing to plfenfentV lateral movement of the casing relative to the blade, the cutting edge of the blade projecting from the casing for -a11v positions of the casing.
