MOISTEEING ATTACHMENT FOR RAZORS.
Application filed June 13, 1917, Serial No. 174,519.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP GANzHoRN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicage, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Moistening Attachments for Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in attachments for razors of safety type. The principal object of the invention is to provide moisture retaining and applying means to be carried by the razor for application to the face or beard of the user, always in advance of the razor blade, during the shaving operation. A further object is to provide an attachment of this type that can be regulated to supply variable amounts of moisture, the amount desired being manually determined by the quality, growth or stubbornness of the beard.
A further object is to provide a razor attachment of this type that can be readily applied to the various styles and types of safety razors being manufactured.
A further object is to provide an attachment that is readily cleaned, not likely to get out of order on account of its extreme simplicity. cheap to manufacture, that does not in any sense interfere with the usual mode of shaving, that is sanitary in use and efficient in operation.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a safety razor of the Ever-Ready type illustrating the application of my attachment.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a safety razor of another type illustrating the application of my attachment.
Fig. 3 is a section through the attachment.
Fig. i is a front view of Fig. 3.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout.
My razor attachment comprises a bulged or substantially oval shaped casing or container 1 which is preferably made of a single Patented Dec. 24, 1918.
Renewed October 7, 1918. Serial No. 257,271.
piece of material and the shape of which may be varied slightly to facilitate its attachment to razors of different shapes. The ends of the material forming the casing or container are spaced or bent from each other leaving an opening 2 and the base 3 of the casing is formed with an aperture 4 which may or may not be threaded as occasion may require. The ends of the casing are open except for the oppositely disposed lateral lips 5 which rise from the base to form guards for the sponge 6 to be carried by the container. The lips 5 extend usually, though not essentially, from one end of the base 3 to a mouth 7 formed in the front face of the container. This mouth is preferably formed by cutting a slot in the material and bending the cut pieces back upon the outer surface of the front face to form lips 8, The sponge 6 when moistened is inserted in the container through one of its open ends and a portion of the sponge then drawn through the mouth 7 of the container.
The container is placed upon the threaded end: of the razor handle 9 and the blade holder 10 then screws upon the handle, in the usual manner, over the base of the container; or in the type of razor shown Fig. 2 the upper portion of the container is 'formed with a threaded aperture for engagement with the handle over the blade holder as shown. The portion of the sponge projecting through the container mouth is disposed below and in advance of the razor blade for contact with the operators beard in advance of said blade. Moisture is thus continuously applied to the beard in advance of the blade as the razor is drawn over the face or heard, The amount of moisture to be applied is regulated by the amount of water first supplied to the sponge.
What is claimed is In a razor attachment, an oval casing adapted for instant attachment to or removal from the razor handle, said casing being formed of a single piece of material having its ends spaced apart, lips bent outwardly from said casing and away from each other to form a mouth, a sponge removably disposed in said casing and partly projected through the casing mouth, and lips formed laterally of said casing and connecting one of the ends thereof and the said as my own I have hereto afixed my signamouth, said lips being of substantially less ture in the presence of two subscribing Witdepth than the sides of the casing, said casnesses.
mg sides being left open above said lips to PHILIP GANZHORN. '5 permit the insertion or removal of said Witnesses:
sponge. H. SANDERS,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing GRACE THOMPSON.
