Abstract

346,238. Electric trollies. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON, Oerlikon, near Zurich, Switzerland. July 11, 1930, No. 21041. Convention date, July 11, 1929. [Class 104 (iii).] Apparatus for quickly lowering a pantograph trolley when it meets an obstruction comprises a pair of bars 1, 2, cross-connected to levers 5, 6 mounted on shafts 3, 4. The lever 6 carries a sleeve 11 having two cam surfaces 9, 10 adapted to be engaged by rollers 13, 14 mounted in frames 12, 18 on the ends of the bars 1, 2. When the trolley meets a resistance in the direction of the arrow A, the pantograph 19, 20 turns the shafts 3, 4 anticlockwise so that the bar is pulled towards the right and the bar 2 is pushed towards the left. This causes the roller 13 to move along the cam surface 9 so that the bar 1 is moved laterally to bring a cam 28 against a rod 25 engaging a rod 30. Movement of the rod 30 releases a latch 31 and permits a spring 33 to expand and move a lever 34 connected to a valve 35 controlling the supply of compressed air to cylinders 41, 43. The air escapes from the cylinder 41 and a spring 44 moves the piston 47 to pull the trolley down through the link 49. To raise the trolley, the driver releases the air from the pipe 36, so that the air escapes from the cylinder 41 and a spring 45 moves the piston 50 to return the valve to the position in Fig. 1 and compress the spring 33. Air is readmitted to the pipe 36, and the cylinders 41, 43 become charged, so that the piston 47 compresses the spring 44 and raises the trolley.
