Abstract
1,080,021. Locking the wheels of a mine car. SHAW, TREW & SMITH Ltd., and D. G. SHAW. April 14, 1964 [Jan. 15, 1963], No. 1756/63. Heading B8E. The wheels 4 of a mine car are engaged and checked by levers 1 which engage in pairs upon and between each lateral pair of wheels 4. The levers 1 are pivotally carried at 6 by slides 9 which slide on shaft 11 positioned beneath the rails 3 on which the wheels 4 move. Sleeves 9 carry pins 15 which move in cam grooves 13 formed in element 12, and the latter is adapted to be pushed in the direction of the shaft 14 by a fluid cylinder. Each pair of arms 1 is connected by cross straps 5. Operation.-Shaft 14 is displaced axially so that element 12 moves in the direction towards spring 17. This movement causes, by engagement of pins 15 in diverging cam grooves 13, the slides 10 to move apart and thus to force the arms 1 in pairs away from engagement with the wheels 4 into the dotted line positions. When shaft 14 and element 12 are displaced in the opposite direction, pins 15 converge and arms 1 are moved into their wheel-engaging positions, as shown full line. Arms 1 are inclined in the vertical plane to assist their action.
