Abstract

1,149,841. Weight transferring draw gear. WHITING CORP. 21 Dec., 1966 [7 Jan., 1966; 6 Sept., 1966; 29 Sept., 1966], Nos. 827/66, 39759/66 and 43671/66. Heading B7T. [Also in Division F1] In order to increase traction force weight is transferred from a wagon 11 to an engine 6 by means of a lever 2 pivoted at 4 to the engine and having a bifurcated part 8 adapted to engage beneath the wagon headstock. An hydraulic ram 16 operated by an hydraulic circuit or circuits (see Division F1) raises the fork 8 and the wagon 11 until the wagon springs 76 are relieved of load, the lifting force then becoming constant. When this happens further lifting is stopped and the lever 2 permitted to drop say “ inch to give a small amount of spring engagement between the spring and wheel of the wagon bearing to ensure engagement. The hydraulic valves may be controlled either manually or electrically.
