Abstract

346,213. Cable stoppers. CLARKE CHAPMAN & CO., Ltd. and WOODESON, W. A., Victoria Works, Gateshead-on-Tyne. May 23, 1930, No. 15904. [Class 78 (ii).] Relates to stoppers of the kind in which a lever or bar 1 or 1a, engaged by the cable, and a casting 6 have coacting surfaces, such as 5, arranged at an angle to the cable race so that the strain of holding the cable does not come upon the pivot pin of the lever or bar. To prevent accidental dislodgment of the lever a lip 7 or 7a is formed upon the casting, and the lever has sufficient play at the pivot to permit engagement and disengagement. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the lever 1 is formed as a shackle loosely pivoted on pins 3 at both sides of the casting 6. In Fig. 3, the lever 1a is pivoted at one side of the casting. Both forms may be provided with a guide roller 10 for the cable. Specification 256,437, [Class 78 (ii), Lifting &c.], is referred to.
