Abstract

Benzoylbenzoic acid derivatives.-The product obtained by condensing o-chlorphenol with phthalic anhydride in presence of an acid condensing agent, is nitrated in the group containing the -Cl and -OH-substituents by treatment with the theoretical quantity of nitric acid for the introduction of one nitro group. The product is reduced by treatment with reducing agents such as iron with acid or a ferrous salt. According to examples, chlorhydroxybenzoylbenzoic acid is obtained by condensing phthalic anhydride with o-chlorphenol, and is nitrated with a mixture of nitric and sulphuric acids, the product being subsequently reduced with ferrous hydroxide. Amino-anthraquinone derivatives.-The reduction products obtained as above are ring-closed, for example with sulphuric acid.
