344,511. Kinematograph apparatus. KINGSTON, A. W., 9, Newman Street, Oxford Street, and SPICERS, Ltd., 19, New Bridge Street, both in London. Dec. 7, 1929, No. 37611. [Class 97 (i).] In apparatus capable of use as a camera or projector, two apertures are provided in the front of the casing, respectively cooperating with separate lens systems for taking and projecting; a single disc shutter may be adapted to serve both lens systems. As shown, apertures 15, 16 in the front wall alternatively cooperate with taking and projecting lenses 18, 19, carried by a plate 9 slidable vertically to effect registration. The shutter comprises, for use in conjunction with the projection aperture 16, a cut-off blade 75 and a flicker blade 75a, these blades being contained in an outer annulus separated by a flange 76 from an inner annulus containing a single blade 71 for use in conjunction with the taking aperture 15. The apparatus may be mounted for use as a projector on a stand comprising a framework 11 supporting a lamp house 12, an electric motor 106, and feed and take-up spools 21, 22 respectively. The mechanism may be driven by hand during taking and projecting, by clockwork during taking, or by the motor 106 through a belt 100 and pulley 101 during projection ; the take-up spool 22 is driven by a belt 102 during projection. The casing of the apparatus may comprise an opening 20 receiving the beam from the lamp house during projection and closed by a removable cover during taking ; it may also comprise a removable side plate 23 which is placed in position during the use of the apparatus as a camera to render it lighttight. The plate 23 has a projection 81 engaging a socket 80 in the plate 9 when the plate is in correct position for taking, and also has projections 83 engaging plates 84 to force them, against the action of springs 85, over slots 78 in the casing which respectively permit passage of the film from the spool 21 and to the spool 22 during projection.
