[Class 97 (i).] In a film magazine for a kinematograph camera or projector, the film gate is mounted resiliently on the magazine and has means coacting with the casing of the apparatus to position the film correctly in the focal plane of the objective when the magazine is inserted in the casing. As shown in Figs. 3 and 6, the gate 6, with the exposure aperture 7, is supported in the end of the magazine 1 by springs 15, 16 and is provided with accurately machined rails 18 which provide a light-tight closure with a cover plate 14. The rails project beyond the plate 14 and co-act with a machined plate on the camera &c. casing so that the gate occupies a predetermined position relatively to the objective. The gate comprises a supporting member 11 and a pressure member 12 positioned by pins and slots and held down by a spring arm 22. A shutter 8 and a mask 28 slide in a groove in the gate member 11 and in guideways provided between the plate 14 and the end wall of the magazine. To allow the necessary movement of the gate, the shutter and mask are made of spring metal and the guide-ways are enlarged at their ends as shown at 27, 29. The feed claw 42 is carried by an arm actuated by an eccentric 37 and hinged link 40 and the works through a slot 44 in the gate, the dimensions of the parts being such as to permit the slight movements of the gate without interfering with the feed action. In the apparatus described the magazine carries the supply and take-up spools with a common feed sprocket and a curved guide which causes the film, in its passage to the exposure window to make a loop round the take-up spool as described in Specification 402,684. The parts are driven from the eccentric shaft 38 which has a clutch adapted to be connected to a power driven shaft mounted on the casing.
