[Class 97 (i)] In apparatus wherein a picture carrier reciprocates in steps horizontally and moves vertically before each horizontal reversal, the carrier moves vertically in a guide member moved horizontally by a pin engaging an endless groove in a rotatable drum ; the carrier may have stops, arranged in staggered formation, which move over a fixed projection and permit the carrier to drop for the vertical movements. As shown in Fig. 3, the casing 1 of apparatus for use as a camera or as a projector carries a fixed plate 22 having an exposure aperture 23 behind which the guide members 30 is moved horizontally. Two lamps 14, in clips 15, may be fed from batteries 8 in the hinged cover 2 of the casing, by way of contact springs 12 engaged with the lamp pins 13 by pressure on a push button 16. The cover carries a focusing lens tube 18 and a pivoted lens stop 19 ; for photography, the lens tube is moved forward to enable the stop to be moved into operative position. The plate 22 carries the pivot 25 for a rocking shutter 24 operated by a pin 26 in the forked end 27 of the shutter arm, and is secured in front of a mechanism plate 29, Fig. 5, supporting and guiding the member 30. A rotatable pin 34 on the back of the member 30 engages a groove 35 in a rotatable drum 36. The groove is endless and consists of two helices modified to produce intermittency of movement of the member 30. The drum is rotated by a handle on the screwed spindle 42 of a gear 40 meshing with a gear 39 on the drum shaft, and a cam 46, Fig. 9, on the drum shaft rocks a lever 48 pivoted at 49 and carrying the shutter-operating pin 26. The picture carrier 31, Fig. 10, has its side and bottom edges turned over to hold a rectangular picture sheet or a sensitized strip, and has staggered strips 52, bent up from a plate secured to the back of it, forming stops each of which in turn slides across a projection 51 on the plate 29 and permits the carrier to fall a picture height at the end of each run. The carrier is loaded into the apparatus through a slot in the casing closed by a hinged clasp 5 holding the cover in place, and is removed by inverting the apparatus and rotating the driving handle. The apparatus may be modified for use with roll films.
