Abstract

422,588. Kinematograph apparatus. VARA Y DE RUEDA, A., 2, Plaza de los Ministerios, Madrid. Dec. 1, 1933, Nos. 33843 and 33844. Convention dates, Dec. 9, 1932 and Aug. 23, 1933. [Class 97 (i)] Apparatus for exhibiting endless films comprises a cover housing a film roll, and a rotatable friction disc in yielding contact with one edge of the film roll. As shown in Figs. 2, 4 and 9, a friction disc 3 and gear 4 are mounted on a crank shaft 1, and a cover 11 is pressed by springs 12 so that one edge of the film coiled within it is engaged with the disc. The gear 4 meshes with a pinion 5 on the spindle of a disc shutter 6 constituting also the pin wheel of a Maltese cross gear 7 driving a sprocket 8. The sprocket is mounted in a member 37, Fig. 3, which is formed with a film aperture 9, and is adjustably secured to a frame plate 28 by screws through lugs 38, 39 ; a spring presser member 10 is provided. The cover 11 is prevented from rotating by a hook 16, formed at one side of an opening 29 through which the film returns to the roll and engaging a lug 17 forming one of a number of lugs secured to the frame plate 28 to position the cover and guide the film. The film leaves the cover through a central opening extended into a slot 21 permitting removal of the cover without removing the film. The frame is screwed to one part 41 of a two-part casing, and the film is lighted through a glazed aperture 32 therein, a mirror 36 being provided behind the film, and a viewing lens 33 or a binocular viewing system being provided in front of it. The viewing system may be replaced by an electric illuminating and projecting system ; a construction of casing enabling one half to be used as a base during projection is described. In a modification, Fig. 13, the disc 3 and cover 11 form a permanent casing for one film and are joined by a tube 22 ; the cover 11 is formed with a bridge 19 engaged by a spring-pressed forked arm 15 to prevent rotation of the cover and to apply pressure thereto. The friction surface may extend wholly over the disc or only over an annulus, and may be formed by skin or pelt with the hair thereon.
