Abstract

682,670. Photographic roll-film cameras. CUNNINGHAM, V. Feb. 23, 1950 [Feb. 23, 1949], No. 4938/49. Class 98 (i). In film-feeding mechanism for a roll-film camera a film-feed control roller engaging the film, the circumference of which equals the frame displacement, carries a circular cam-disc having a single notch in its periphery engageable by a spring-pressed dog, and also has a pin upstanding from its surface so as to prick the film once on each rotation and thereby define an inter-frame line. The camera may have a number-counter stepped sequentially and photographed on the film at each film change. As shown, Fig. 4, a roll film holder for attachment to a camera comprises a casing 11 with a rectangular film window 12, which has its edges lined on the inside with velvet or plush and is covered by a plate 12 hinged within the casing. The front of the casing may be removed and plate 13 swung outward to place the supply spool 14 in the casing. The film 19 is led from spool 14 over a guide roller 15 at the hinged end of plate 13, over plate 13 and across window 12 to a guide roller 16, between roller 16 and a film-feed control roller 17 and thence over idler rollers to the take-up spool 18. Rollers 16, 17 are rubber-covered and grip film 19 between them, and carry meshing gears 20. Roller 17 also carries a disc 21, Fig. 6, having a notch into which is urged a dog 22 mounted on a rod 27 with a knob 23 which is pressed against action of a spring to free dog 22 from disc 21. This allows the film-winding to be started, after which dog 22 rides on disc 21 until roller 17 has made one revolution. Since the circumference of roller 17 equals the frame displacement, the film is advanced to expose the next frame without overlap or waste. Roller 17 also carries a pin which pricks the film to mark the divisions between frames. Movement of rod 27 also actuates a counter 26, Fig. 7, mounted on the casing wall, and opens a shutter 28 in an optical system comprising two reflectors and a lens 30 enclosed in a cylinder 31, whereby the numbers on the counter are sequentially photographed on the film.
