Abstract

341,571. Printing-machines. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (Wood Newspaper Machinery Corporation ; 501, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 25, 1929, No. 32503. [Class 100 (ii).] Inking - apparatus.-Ink is transferred continuously from a fountain roll to an ink-drum rotating at a different speed by a roller having a resilient or relatively soft surface and driven from the ink-drum. As shown, the ink-drum 13 and fountain roller 17 are driven positively in opposite directions, the roller 17 at a slower speed than the drum 13. The pick-up roller 20 having a surface of rubber, felt, roller composition, or other resilient material contacts with the drum 13 and roller 17 and is driven by the drum so that the contacting surfaces of the rollers 17, 20 move in opposite directions. The roller 20 is mounted on bearing blocks 22 connected by screwed studs 23 to arms 24 hung on the bearings of the drum 13, the studs being rotatable by means of collars 27 to adjust the roller 20 relatively to the drum 13. Adjustment of the roller 20 relatively to the roller 17 can be effected by screws 29 journalled in poppets 30 on the machine frame and threaded into the bearing blocks 22. A scraperblade 19 for the roller 17 is provided with adjusting means 16 located on the outside of the outside of the inking-mechanism.
