Abstract

341,421. Radiator tubes. WHITBY, H., Sunnyside, Glyn Road, Ponders End, Enfield, Middlesex. Oct. 14, 1929, No. 31168. [Class 99 (i).] In a radiator for motoi vehicles &c., one end of each tube 8, or one connector of each group of tubes, is fitted with a rubber sleeve 12 which is normally disposed between the wall of the water chamber 4 and a collar 11 located on the tube and is of such dimensions that when axially compressed it will permit the assembly or removal of the tube. The other end of the tube is secured in a hole 7 in the water chamber 5 in a fluidtight manner by a rubber washer 10 which is pressed between the wall of the chamber 5 and a second collar 9 fixed on the tube. The collars 9, 11 and the holes 6, 7 in the water chamber are preferably countersunk to receive the ends of the washer 10 and sleeve 12. The sleeve 12 may be reinforced by a flat spring ring 15, Fig. 2, or by end flanges and longitudinal ribs; further, in order to prevent the ends of the sleeve and washer in contact with the chambers 4, 5 becoming vulcanized by the heat they are formed at these ends with enlarged bores, or the holes in the chambers are formed with lips therearound over which the outer ends of the sleeve and washer are fitted. In a modification, Fig. 8, a spring clip 20 is disposed between the collar 11 and sleeve 12 which, when removed, permits longitudinal displacement of the sleeve in addition to the above axial compression.
