Flexible tubes.-Rubber tubing of the kind manufactured as a finished product is reinforced externally by a fabric e.g. braiding and is then doped with any known composition not containing rubber which resists oil and water e.g. cellulose acetate with appropriate plasticizers and softeners, pyroxylin composition, nitrocellulose plastic varnish, or a phenolic condensation product in a varnish or like form. The dope may be combined with any suitable colour, and may be applied by passing the tube through a bath of the dope, or by spraying through converging jets or by passing the tube through a die or cup containing the dope. The covering may be vulcanized to the tubing which may be lined with a dope or with graphite or graphite composition. The tubing may be used as a pipe line for liquids or gases e.g. coal gas, as a support for wires of the Bowden-wire type, for communicating the suction effect to windscreen wipers on motor-cars, for bicycle and motor-car pump connections or for scientific, medicinal, surgical, or other purposes.
