Abstract

217,681. Lord, H. C. April 3, 1923. Deflectable, axle-ends.- A flexible joint comprises inner and outer rigid members enclosing a rubber insert which is securely connected to both members, to one, and preferably to both, by surface bonding means, such as vulcanization. The rubber ring may be built up of rubber progressively harder from the outside to the inside. In the knuckle joint for automobiles shown in Fig. 7 the stub axle 40 turns with a sleeve 42 supported on a pin 44 which is itself carried in the axle 37. Rubber sleeves are vulcanized on the one hand to the pin 44 and on the other hand to tubes 39, 43. The outer tubes 39, 43 are screwed into their carriers 37, 42, the tubes 39 being locked in position by screwed caps 49 and the tube 43 by a set-screw.
