340,629. Sewing-machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. and MINETT, W. T., Union Works, Belgrave Road, Leicester. Oct. 8, 1929, No. 30451. [Class 112.] Lockstitching by hooks. - A rotary bobbin case provided with the loop-taking hook, suitable for lock stitching on shoes, of the type wherein the bobbin is retained by spring fingers, is enabled to house a larger bobbin by providing the cam for lifting the fingers on the outside of the case. The invention is specially applicable to the boot sewing-machines described in Specifications 23478/10 and 100,036, [both in Class 112, Sewing &c.]. The tubular case 1 has a housing 3 for the bobbin 5 and has a loop-taking beak or hook 11. Teeth 13 are provided for rotating the case by engagement with a driving pinion. A shoulder 15 is provided round the member 7 to engage the rib 19 on the bobbin case 17. This case has a split sleeve 21 for the bobbin. A sleeve 29 on the fixed member 25 carries fingers 31 urged towards the bobbin case 17 by springs 33 and released therefrom by the cam ridge 39 on the outside of the case. This device holds the bobbin case rigid with the hook for a period and then releases it to allow the under thread to pass between the finger and the case.
