[Class 112.] Lock stitching.- A curved hooked needle lock-stitching machine has three thread - engaging members of which two have relative movement while in engagement with the loop, to spread it open and facilitate its passage about the bobbin. The invention is described as applied to the machine described in Specification 23478/10, [Class 112, Sewing &c.]. The shuttle or rotary hook is abolished, the thread being passed round the bobbin case 7 by the loop handling devices. The thread loop drawn up by the needle 4 is er gaged by a pair of fingers 17, 18 which engage the side of the loop leading to the thread supply. These fingers separate to open the loop as they carry it into position to be passed round the bobbin case. The fingers are carried by an arm 19 pivoted on the shaft 20. The arm 19 is also pivoted to a link 21 provided with a square opening 22 surrounding a cam 23 on the shaft 24 geared to the cam shaft of the machine in timed relation. By this mechanism, the fingers 17, 18 are given an up-and-down movement with a dwell at the end of the movement. They have hooks at their lower ends for entering the loop. The rearwardly extending portion 31 of the loop between the fingers 17, 18 is engaged by a hook formed on the loop-taker 34 which advances from the left side of the bobbin case 7 through slots in the bobbin case bracket 13 and slide 14. The loop-taker 34 passes the spread loop over the bobbin case by a segment 35 moving on the rack 41.
