Abstract
339,983. Hodge, D. Sept. 14, 1929. Blasting cartridges. -- A. blasting cartridge of the type wherein the discharge is caused by the heating of a substance confined therein in a condensed state under pressure, such as carbon dioxide, has a release valve operated by the pressure generated within the cartridge to liberate the explosive pressure. Solid carbon dioxide is packed directly into the cartridge 1 tc surround a heather element 18 provided with an explosive and igniting means. The cartridge is fired by electric means contacting with sockets24 in the cap which normally are shortcircuited. The end of the cartridge is closed by a spring- pressed valve 7 which is released under initial explosive pressure for full opening by the interaction of spring sliding pins 15 with wedge surfaces 17. The valve 7 may be released by means of a pilot plunger 28, wedge surfaces 30 on which are adapted to withdraw pins 15a from engagement. with the spring-pressed collar 12. Specification 324,617 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
