Abstract

970,467. Ammunition cartridges. AMP Inc. June 19, 1963 [July 2, 1962], No. 24334/63. Heading F3A. [Also in Division B4] A cartridge, particularly intended for use in cartridge-operated tools, is as described in Specification 873,192, but has a plug 1 modified by the addition of prongs 6 which act as a safety device to prevent premature ignition of a percussion cap 3. The prongs 6 have a high compression strength in the longitudinal direction, but a low compression strength in a transverse direction. The cartridge is shown fitted into a tool, such as described in Specification 959,884, having a breech assembly as described in Specification 956,227, wherein by relative rotation of the plug 1 and a ram 11 caused by the combined rotation of sleeve 15, housing 14 and breech 16 the prongs are bent over, Fig. 5, to allow a firing pin at the inner extremity of the ram 11 to lie adjacent the percussion cap. Specification 970,466 also is referred to.
