Abstract

1353343 Cartridges H-L SCHIRNEKER 3 May 1971 [2 May 1970 7 Jan 1971] 3674/72 Divided out of 1353342 Heading F3A A cartridge 23, Fig. 1, for a firearm as claimed in the main Specification, has a bullet 87 having a body 89 of tungsten and a tip 90 of copper for example which may be needle sharp. The cartridge 23 has a shell 80 of synthetic plastics material, having a cross-section which is uniform over its entire length. The shell 80 contains an insert 86 of brass or steel which receives the bullet 87, powder 85 and a detonator 81. The insert 86 has a frusto-conical end face which serves as a valve seat. The detonator 81 contains composition 82 and an anvil 83 which is abutted by a bead 84 of the detonator 81. The cartridge is provided with a shearing edge 92, Fig. 4, which separates the cartridge from a belt during the firing of the firearm. In another embodiment a wall 95, Fig. 2 (not shown), is provided with an axial bore 96 and a bead 97 is provided in a shell 93. In a further embodiment beads 97, 99, Fig. 3 (not shown), are provided in a shell 93. In other embodiments a percussion cap 364, Fig. 7 (not shown), a firing pin opening 363 and a synthetic plastics sealing member 369 are provided, a synthetic plastics cover 377, Fig. 9 (not shown), is mounted at an end of shell 380, an anvil comprises spring arms 379 and annular beads 383 are formed to fit into grooves of a sealing member 384, metal caps 389, 390, Fig. 11 (not shown), are positioned one at each end of shell 388, a sealing ring 393, Fig. 12 (not shown), is provided, and a projection 404, Fig. 13 (not shown) of a cover-plate 402 penetrates into a percussion cap 405 to effect detonation.
