Abstract

1330015 Cartridges REMINGTON ARMS CO Inc 19 April 1971 [30 March 1970] 23000/71 Heading F3A A shotgun or single-shot cartridge comprises a one-piece thermoplastics casing 14, an integral wall 20 with a primer opening 24 therein, an annular flange 26 compressed between a rigid, un-yielding metallic head 32 and an annular metallic support 30, and a primer 34 frictionally located within the support 30 to exert additional compressive pressure against the flange. The thermoplastics material comprises polyethylene, polycarbonate and polysulphone or alloys of these, the strength characteristics of which have been improved by cold working. The head 32 is formed of hardened steel having a hardness of RC45 to RC50. The member 30 is made of brass, copper or steel and expands under gas pressure on firing to ensure a good seal.
