Abstract

324,617. Hodge, D. Sept. 18, 1928. Blasting and mining cartridges.-A blasting cartridge of the type having a rupturable closure and charged with a medium under pressure in liquid form which is gasified at ordinary temperatures and pressures, and also with an explosive mixture for causing gasification, as described in Specification 313,333, is provided at the discharge end with a cap having means to engage the walls of the drill hole to prevent displacement during discharge. The means employed may comprise radially disposed spring pistons 19 with pointed ends 21, displaced outwardly by the force of the discharge acting through narrow apertures 18 and spring retracted, or the. pistons may be actuated bv an axially movable conical plunger 43, also spring retracted, acting on the inclined ends 58 of the auxiliary plungers, which engage slots in the main plunger. The auxiliary plungers may also take the form of levers pivoted on axes parallel to the cap and actuated by means of an axially disposed main plunger moved by the force of discharge.
