Abstract
517,417. Blasting cartridges. IGNATIEFF, A., and CARDOX (Great Britain), Ltd. May 24, 1938, No. 15527. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to carbon-dioxide and like cartridges. The cartridge body 1 which is filled with the gas under pressure through a filling valve 17 has a necked end 2 within which is located, without positive connection, the plugged end 25 of a container 7 for a heating charge 8. Grooves 10, or holes, through the thickened annulus. 2 permit the gas charge to pass into the body of the cartridge. The heating charge is electrically ignited by the means described in Specification 387,068. In a modification, the annulus 2 has a plain bore within which the container end 25 fits with a substantial clearance for the passage of the gas charge. An L-section ferrule is fitted to the container 7 and the flange thereof is formed with ports through which the gas charge passes and is clamped between the cartridge head 4 and the rear face 3 of the annulus 2. The cartridge is anchored in the bore-hole at the instant of discharge by pivoted claws 28 which are forced outwards by the expanding gas, in the manner described in Specification 417,043.
