Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A device for supporting and dropping loads from aircraft comprises two pivotally mounted jaws 1, 2, a contact member 14 arranged to be engaged by the load presented to the device, and a spreading lock member 6 mechanically connected as by a spring 13 to the contact member 14 and moved between upper extensions 7, 8 of the jaws 1, 2 in the device supporting condition to urge the jaws against the load. The load is released by actuation of a piston 9 integral with the spreading lock member 6, the actuation being caused by gas under pressure from a cartridge explosion or a reservoir of compressed air. The releasing action may also be caused by a cocked spring.
