Abstract
615,054. Parachute release mechanism. REDWING, Ltd., and NUNN, G. W. Aug. 20, 1946, No. 24821. [Class 4] An automatic parachute release comprises a cylinder fitted with a piston, the piston-rod being connected to the rip cord and the cylinder communicating with a breech block in which a cartridge is fired by trigger mechanism controlled by a pressuresensitive device, the piston-rod being operated to pull the rip cord by gas admitted to the cylinder, the gas being either that produced by the explosion of the cartridge or a compressed gas released by means operated by the explosion of the cartridge. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the rip cord is engaged by a snap hook d on a piston-rod c, the piston b of which is operated to release the rip cord by the explosive gases from a cartridge h fired by a pin 28 when a trigger 32 is released by a bell-crank 8 operated by a barometric capsule 6, as described in Specification 580,592. The end of the cylinder a in which the piston works is provided with exhaust ports e and a cushion spring f. Instead of using the gases from the cartridge-for directly operating the piston, they may be arranged to puncture a container of compressed gas, Fig. 2 (not shown).
