Armouring cables.-In order that no permanent change of internal volume due to temperature variations may occur in a high tension cable of the kind comprising paper or other insulation impregnated with oil or oil and resin and enclosed in a lead sheath, the sheath is reinforced by a tape wrapped on helically with a short pitch and formed of steel having an elastic limit stress of approximately 100 tons per square inch . A layer of armouring preferably in the form of flat wires or tapes applied with a long lay may be interposed between the lead sheath and the steel reinforcement.
