Abstract

339,370. Grant, J. W. Sept. 13, 1929. Drying.-A machine for glazing paper has twin .glazing cylinders 1, 2 with means for feeding the web to either as required, the other cylinder being inoperative to allow resurfacing, particularly by grinding it in situ. The web 4 passes from drying cylinders 3, over guide rolls 5, 7, 8 and conveyers 6, 9 to the glazing cylinder 2 and pressure roller 10, and is wound on a reel 11 on a reel frame 12, whilst the cylinder 1 is being ground by a roller 13, the water used in grinding being caught by a tray 14, an additional tray 15 catching water which misses the tray 14. When the guiding means are modified to direct the web to the cylinder 1, and the cylinder 2 is being ground, the trays may be mounted thereunder or the water may fall into a pit under the cylinder. The conveyer 6 may be dispensed with, the guide rolls being rearranged. The drying cylinders 3 and the guide roll 5 may be substituted by press rolls through which pass the web and its conveyer. The drive is preferably applied to the cylinder in operation, and the cylinder being ground preferably motor driven. The machine may be used to make alternatively, ribbed and unribbed paper.
