Abstract

750,112. Winding webs. NORTON & CO., Ltd., Sir J. F., and DAWES, W. A. Dec. 23, 1954 [Dec. 23, 1953], No. 35719/53. Class 100 (1). [Also in Group VIII] In a continuous batching machine, for forming rolls of cloth from long lengths, of the kind having two driving drums and means whereby a partly wound roll can be transferred from a leading driving drum to a following drum while the machine is in operation, a serrated cutter 4, which rises to cut the cloth 6, has beneath it a perforated pipe 7 which directs a stream of air, steam or water towards an empty roller 9, whereby the cut end of the cloth is wrapped around that roller to begin winding a new roll. A curved deflector 5, on pivoted arms 11, guides the cloth around the roller 9 which is rotated, to wind the cloth 6, by a roller 10 engaging the leading and following drums 1 and 2. A second perforated pipe 8 is placed in front of the cutter 4 with its perforations directed upwards.
