Abstract

338,532. Gilbert, W. V., and Crisp, C. Aug. 14, 1929. Revolving-cylinder pumps.-An engine or pump comprises cylinders 1 revolving about a shaft 2, piston 3 reciprocating within the cylinders and revolving therewith, and abutments 10 revolving about a second shaft 11, the pistons bearing on these abutments during the working strokes by means of rollers 8; the pistons and abutments move apart during the synchronous rotation of the two shafts. The outward movement of the pistons is limited by bars 4 on the cylinders or by slots 20, Fig. 2, in the cylinders engaging gudgeons 19 on the pistons. The abutments may have plain surfaces 10 as shown in Fig. 1 or the movement of each piston during its in and out stroke may be constrained between two surfaces 10, 10<a>, Fig. 2; these surfaces may be formed on a plate 10<b> adjustable on the carrier 9 for variation of the piston stroke. Instead of the abutment member consisting of a single plate as described it may be in the form of cylinder piston elements similar to those described, the pistons in the two elements carrying bowls which cause the movement of both sets of pistons.
