Abstract
321,829. Richards, W. H. B. Nov. 16, 1928. Four-stroke-cycle engines; driving-gear.-Two sets of oppositely moving pistons b, b<2>, b<4> and b<1>, b<3> are connected to two pairs of side bars c, c<1>, Fig 3, and d, d<1>, the sets moving together and four combustion chambers being formed between the pairs of pistons. The drive is on to cranks or as shown eccentrics k, m through cross-sliding members j, which move in the ends of the bars. Leakage past the side bars is prevented by spring-pressed wedges. A number of engines as described may drive one crank shaft, the eccentrics being disposed at an angle to each other.
