Driving-gear; casings; linkwork.-In an internal-combustion or other engine the piston is connected to the crank-shaft through lazytongs mechanism comprising two or more quadrangles. The crank-shaft has two cranks 6 at the same angle. The lower end of the tongs is pivoted on the crank-shaft between the cranks, or, alternatively, on a separate shaft. The two connecting-rods 7 are connected to the ends of a pin 8 forming the upper pivot of the lowest quadrangle. All the links consist of a series of plates, the plate of opposite sides of the tongs being alternately arranged and interleaving with one another. The plates 10 and 11 on the pin 8 form sides both of the lowest and of the next quadrangle. Each of the outer plates 10, 11 is partially split longitudinally at 19 and engages grooves in the pivot pins 16. The crank-chamber is formed by a prolongation of the cylinder and is closed by a cap 4, which secures the crankshaft. Crank webs are dispensed with, the crank pins being connected to the crank shaft only by the segmental areas of overlap.
