337,799. Ellis Sterling Bookkeeping Machines, Ltd., Brock, J. H., and Leeder, F. J. July 9,1929. Sheet feeding and guiding arragements-A condensed-record arrangement comprises a hinged or loose paper-apron which can be depressed to permit of front insertion of a ledger sheet and is provided with hooks for limiting the movement of the feed-rollers when released; the arrangement may also comprise three pivoted bails for holding the ledger and record sheets. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 6, brackets 12 on the carriage support fixed shelves 18, 22 and a separate apr¾n 60 which is loosely mounted by means of ears 63 on screws 62 and rests on an arm carried by the releasing-shaft 73 for the feed-rollers 64, 65. The shaft has a groove normally engaging projections 72 on rocking arms 70 carrying supports 68 for the feedrollers. The shaft carries a finger-lever 74 having a cam 75 engaging one of the arms 70. When the shaft is rocked, the feed-rollers are released and the apron drops to permit of front insertion' of the ledger sheet, hooks 76 on the apron cooperating with the feed-roller spindle 66 to maintain the feed-roller in horizontal position and to prevent the rear feed-rollers from rising into contact with the platen 15. The ledger and record sheets are held in contact with the platen by means of rollers on a pivoted bail 42 connected to a spring 47. When pulled forwards to release the sheets, the bail is held by a pivoted latch 48 which can be released by means of a finger-lever 52 having a pin engaging a slot 51 in the latch. The record sheet is held in contact with the platen by means of rollers on pivoted bails 26, 32 connected to springs 29, 36 which are arranged to hold the bails either in contact with the platen or the shelves 22, 18. An adjusbable side-gauge 56 for the sheets is carried by the bail 42 and is secured by a screw 67.
