[Class 100 (iv)] Carbon-sheet arrangements.-In manifolding- arrangements comprising, as described in the parent Specification, a movable carbon - sheet holder which is retained in the rear position by releasable locking-means, the locking-means is automatically released by means of the webs. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, a bail B<1>, provided with carbon-holding fingers 27 and guides 29 for the webs 28, is pivoted at 23 to a frame 16 having rollers 17 which run on rails 15 secured to a support A<1> forming part of a base-plate A. The typewriter is placed on the base-plate and is positioned by means of laterally adjustable plates 11. The bail B<1> is urged rearwards by springs and normally rests on a yoke 22 and is latched by means of spring-urged arms 30. The frame 16 is coupled to the platen-carriage D by means of laterally adjustable and tiltable arms 19 having cranked ends which enter sleeves 18 and are secured by screws 21, the sleeves being journalled in housings 20 on the frame. A vertically movable slide 35 on the frame 16 is provided with an adjustable cross-bar 38 for engaging the webs, and a finger 40 engaging an arm in connection with the latching - arms 30. When the webs are fed forwards by rotating the platen, the tension depresses the slide 35, the latching - arms 30 are released, and the bail B<1> swings forwardly to permit movement of the carbon sheets with the webs. After a set of forms has been typed, the platen is rotated backwards, the ends of the webs are raised above the crossbar 38 to permit return of the bail and carbon sheets to normal position, and the webs are then pulled forwards. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 4, a trolly B<2>, provided with carbonholding fingers 27 and guides 48 for the webs 28, runs horizontally on a frame 45 secured to the platen-carriage D. The frame is supported by a rail 56 which is secured to arms 57 having sockets 58 for receiving the rear feet of the typewriter. The trolly is urged rearwards by a spring drum 50 and is normally latched by means of an arm 52 which is pivoted on the frame and co-operates with a hook 51 on the trolly, the front end of the arm having a crossbar 54 engaging the webs. The tension of the webs rocks the arm 52 to release the trolly. In another form of apparatus, the carbon-holding fingers are carried by a spring-urged bail which is pivoted at the rear of a frame attached to the platen-carriage, the arrangement of the pivots preventing the bail from being raised by the direct tension of the webs. Raising of the carbon-sheet bail is initiated by means of a yoke which is pivoted on the frame and is provided at the rear with a rod engaging the carbon-sheet bail, and at the front with a rod which is arranged at a higher level than the carbon-sheet bail and engages the webs.
