Abstract

337,142. Lemoine, P. L. Nov. 24, 1928, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-In order to ensure proper carburation at low speeds, the air inlet to the carburettor is fitted with a loaded valve 6 which remains closed at low speeds, and the space 9 in front of the valve is connected by a conduit 11 to a nozzle 12 which directs a current of air across the fuel jet 3; also the float chamber 2 is connected by a conduit 13 with the space 10 beyond the valve 6. The richness of the mixture at low speeds may be adjusted by means of an adjustable bye-pass 18, Fig. 2, connecting opposite sides of the valve 6, so as to vary the amount of air passing through the nozzle 12. In order to prevent loss of power at high speeds due to the action of the valve 6, the action of the spring 8 loading this valve is removed at high speeds by a piston 21 working in a cylinder 20 connected by a conduit 22 to the choke 14. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) an adjustment may be provided in the conduit 13, and also in an additional conduit connecting the float chamber to the engine side of the mixture throttle 5. The jet 3 may be arranged to be inactive when the throttle valve is closed, fuel for slow running being then supplied by an auxiliary jet. The nozzle 12 may be applied to carburettors having two fuel jets, in which case one jet 3 may be arranged, as shown in Fig. 7 (Cancelled), under an aperture 36 in the nozzle 12, which has an extension 28 for acting on the main jet 23 placed at the narrowest. portion of the choke. The jet 23 may aLso be arranged axially with the float chamber and may have an extension acting as a guide to the float. Where one of the fuel jets is placed high above the constant level, or where it is desired to increase the output of the jets at low speeds, the float chamber may be connected by a conduit leading to the side 9 of the valve 6 or to the atmosphere. In another form of carburettor, the nozzle 12 and choke tube, are vertical, with two fuel jets arranged one above the other. In a modification, of this vertical type, the nozzle 12 is constituted by an annular passage surrounding the fuel passage, which is formed with a terminal jet at its upper end. and with an intermediate jet. Other forms of horizontal fuel jets are described in which the air nozzle 12 surrounds the jet. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
