Abstract

336,949. Backer, C. B. June 22, 1929. Wire resistances, embedded and encased. - In an electric heating element comprising a wire embedded in magnesium oxide which is produced by wrapping the wire in magnesium which is afterwards converted into oxide by steam or water at high temperature and pressure as described in Specification 173,742, [Class 36, Electricity, Conducting &c.], the magnesium is applied to the wire in the form of two or more longitudinal strips bent into arcuate form so as together to constitute a tube. In the arrangement shown two such strips 3 are arranged in the casing 2 to receive the coil of wire 1, clearance being allowed to facilitate insertion. A magnesium wire 5 is passed along the axis of the coil to provide oxide for filling the interior of the coil.
