Abstract
341,938. Wire resistances. SYKES, C., 12, Derbyshire Lane, NEEDHAM, W., 80, Victoria Road, both in Stretford, Manchester, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London. Oct. 15, 1929, No. 31338. [Class 37.] A heating element is formed by placing a spirallywound resistance wire within a metal tube, placing a layer of magnesium inside the coil, or between the coil and the tube, or both, treating the magnesium with steam under pressure to convert it into magnesium hydroxide, and subsequently flattening the tube by pressing, rolling &c. so as to reduce its cross-section without increasing its length. Before pressing, the tube is plugged at the ends with steatite &c., through which the resistance wire passes. The tube, particularly if of nickel, may be heated during the pressing operation. The tube may be bent to any shape either during or after the pressing operation.
