335,737. Groves, L. H. Sept. 26, 1929. Actuating - mechanism.- A valve-actuating device particularly adapted for actuating the gas valves of water heaters comprises a pivoted member 13 provided with a curved plug 12 adapted to work in a hole 11 in a partition 9 separating the inlet and outlet water chambers. The upper part of the plug has a minimum clearance in the hole, while the lower part is fluted, stepped, or otherwise formed to give an increased clearance as the plug lifts. The plug may have a collar to close completely the hole when in its lowered position. Specification 325,897 is referred to.
