Ornamenting rubber. - Articles produced directly on a former from aqueous dispersions of rubber, guttapercha, balata, &c., are ornamented by dipping them while still on the former, into water on the surface of which have been floated streams of coloured solutions, for example, rubber solutions containing inorganic pigments such as cadmium sulphide or vermilion, which may be applied to the surface of the water through fine nozzles in containers or allowed to drip from the prongs of a fork dipped in the solution. Preferably, the article with its coloured surface is withdrawn through clear water, for which purpose, a suitable arrangement comprises a tank with a transverse partition which does not extend to the bottom. On the surface of the water in one of the compartments thus formed is placed the colour; the rubber article is passed into this, under the partition, and out through the other partition.
