Ornamenting. - Translucent articles such as shades, cups, basins, &c., formed from a base of gelatine and zinc white, are ornamented by dipping them into a bath containing gelatine and zinc white and then into a solution of gelatine to which colour has been added either in bulk or in drops on the surface. In the latter case, aniline colours are used and a veined effect is produced. The surfaces may be further treated with a collodion solution and a solution of starch or amylaceous varnish.
